7 Final Cut Pro

OVERVIEW

The HDX-SDI serves as a powerful video capture

and playback device for Apple Final Cut Pro.

Operation is straightforward and follows the

general workﬂow prescribed by Final Cut Pro. In

addition to standard log and capture procedures

and straightforward timeline playback, the

HDX-SDI also provides presets for Easy Setup,

Sequences, Capture and Device Control.

The HDX-SDI supports full-raster HD capture to

uncompressed, Apple ProRes or any other codec of

your choice.

FAMILIARITY WITH FINAL CUT PRO

This chapter assumes that you have a working

knowledge of basic Final Cut Pro operation.

BEFORE YOU LAUNCH FINAL CUT PRO

Before you launch Final Cut Pro, be sure to:

■ Insert the HDX-SDI Installer CD and run the

Easy Install option.

■ Install the HDX-SDI hardware and connect your

video devices to it as explained in chapter 3,

“Installing the HDX-SDI Hardware” (page 15).

■ Switch on the HDX-SDI and run MOTU Video

Setup to make sure that installation has been

successful. If MOTU Video Setup launches without

any error messages, then Final Cut Pro should

successfully communicate with the HDX-SDI. If

you see error messages, refer to Appendix A,

“Troubleshooting” page (51).

GETTING STARTED

You are now ready to run Final Cut Pro.

1 Launch Final Cut Pro.

2 Create a new project using Final Cut Pro’s Easy

Setup feature in the Final Cut Pro menu. See the

next section for details about Easy Setups.
